The brands Munich Bike Rental and Bike Tours Munich are operated by Heiliggeist 1 Betriebs GmbH.
These Terms and Conditions apply to all services provided by the company, including in particular:
bicycle rentals
guided bike tours
excursions and related activities.
By renting a bicycle, booking a tour, or participating in any activity, the customer agrees to these Terms and Conditions.
A rental or tour booking becomes binding once:
the reservation has been completed by the customer, and
payment has been made or the booking has been confirmed by the company.
The company reserves the right to refuse bookings without providing a reason.
Customers renting a bicycle must:
be at least 18 years old, or be accompanied by a responsible adult
provide a valid government-issued ID (passport or driver's license).
The company reserves the right to refuse rental if identification cannot be provided.
The company may require a security deposit before releasing bicycles or other equipment.
The deposit may be held in the form of:
a credit card authorization
a temporary hold on a credit card
or another form of deposit at the company’s discretion.
The deposit may be used to cover:
damage to bicycles or equipment
theft or loss of equipment
late return fees
cleaning or repair costs.
If no such costs arise, the deposit will be released after the equipment has been returned and inspected.
The rental period begins at the agreed rental start time and ends at the agreed return time.
All rented equipment must be returned:
on time
in proper condition
to the agreed return location.
Late returns may be charged an additional rental fee.
The company reserves the right to charge additional fees for:
late returns
excessive cleaning
misuse of equipment.
If equipment is not returned within a reasonable period after the agreed return time and no communication has been made with the company, the company reserves the right to consider the equipment lost or stolen and charge the replacement cost.
The company provides bicycles and, depending on the service:
locks
helmets
additional accessories if applicable.
All equipment is provided in proper working condition.
Customers must check the bicycle and equipment before leaving the rental location and immediately report any visible defects.
If no defect is reported, the equipment is considered accepted in proper condition.
The renter agrees to:
use the bicycle responsibly and with due care
comply with all traffic laws and regulations
secure the bicycle properly using the provided lock whenever it is unattended
not use the bicycle under the influence of alcohol or drugs
not use the bicycle for racing, off-road riding, or other inappropriate purposes
not transfer, sub-rent, or lend the bicycle to another person without permission from the company.
The renter is fully responsible for the bicycle during the entire rental period.
The renter is responsible for any damage to the rented bicycle or equipment occurring during the rental period, unless the damage results from normal wear or mechanical malfunction not caused by the renter.
This includes damage caused by:
improper use
negligence
accidents
vandalism while the bicycle is under the renter’s responsibility.
The company reserves the right to inspect and assess the damage and determine repair or replacement costs.
The renter is fully responsible for the bicycle and equipment during the entire rental period.
The renter must secure the bicycle using the lock provided by the company whenever the bicycle is unattended.
Failure to properly lock the bicycle may result in full liability for theft or loss.
In case of theft, the renter must immediately:
notify the company
report the theft to the local police.
In the event of theft, loss, or total damage of a rented bicycle, the renter may be held liable for the replacement value of the bicycle and any accessories. The replacement value will be based on the cost of purchasing a new bicycle of the same or comparable model and specification.
Depending on the bicycle type, the replacement value may be up to €1000 for standard bicycles and up to €2000 for electric bicycles (e-bikes), including accessories such as locks, keys, batteries, and chargers if applicable. The final replacement value will be determined by the company.
In the event of an accident involving the rented bicycle, the renter must:
immediately inform the company
contact local authorities if required
provide accurate information regarding the incident.
The renter must not admit liability on behalf of the company.
Failure to report an accident may result in the renter being held responsible for resulting damages.
Bicycles rented from the company may not be used for commercial purposes, organized events, or guided tours without prior written permission from the company.
For group rentals, the person making the reservation may be held responsible for ensuring that all participants comply with these Terms and Conditions.
Participation in bicycle rental and related activities occurs at the renter's own risk.
The company shall only be liable for damages resulting from:
intentional misconduct
gross negligence.
Liability for minor negligence is excluded except in cases involving:
injury to life
bodily injury
damage to health
breach of essential contractual obligations.
In such cases liability is limited to foreseeable and typical damages.
The company accepts no liability for loss or damage to personal belongings, including but not limited to:
bags
phones
cameras
money
valuables.
By renting a bicycle or participating in any activity provided by Munich Bike Rental / Heiliggeist 1 Betriebs GmbH, the renter acknowledges that cycling involves inherent risks.
These risks may include, but are not limited to:
collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, or other cyclists
road hazards such as uneven pavement, gravel, potholes, or obstacles
weather conditions
mechanical failure of equipment
rider error or loss of control.
The renter voluntarily assumes all risks associated with bicycle use and participation in cycling activities.
The renter agrees to release and hold harmless Munich Bike Rental / Heiliggeist 1 Betriebs GmbH, its owners, employees, and representatives from any claims for injury, loss, or damage arising from the use of rented bicycles, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
The renter acknowledges that bicycles are mechanical devices and agrees to stop using the bicycle immediately if any mechanical issue occurs and to notify the company.
Bicycle rentals are generally available in most weather conditions.
The company reserves the right to cancel or modify services due to:
severe weather
safety concerns
operational reasons
force majeure.
In such cases customers may choose between rescheduling or receiving a refund for unused services.
The following refund policy applies to reservations:
Cancellation more than 14 days before the rental or tour:
100% refund.
Cancellation between 14 days and 48 hours before the rental or tour:
50% refund.
Cancellation less than 48 hours before the rental or tour:
no refund.
Transaction fees charged by payment providers (such as credit card providers or PayPal) may be deducted from refunds.
Failure to appear at the agreed rental or tour start time will be considered a no-show and no refund will be issued.
The company assumes no responsibility for the loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings during rental or participation in activities.
Customers are responsible for safeguarding their own property.
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Where legally permissible, the place of jurisdiction shall be Munich, Germany.
If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
